Wal-Mart Cleared Of Sex Offender's Bias Claim

Law360, New York (January 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has been cleared of Title VII violation claims that its alleged policy against hiring registered sex offenders is discriminatory, because the civil rights law does not recognize sex offenders as a protected class.

U.S. District Judge James F. McClure Jr. of the Middle District of Pennsylvania on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit filed against Wal-Mart by Richie F. Levine, who had applied for a job as a cashier at a Wilkes Barre, Pa., store.
