Microsoft SkyDrive Infringes Sky Trademark, UK Court Rules

Law360, New York (July 1, 2013, 4:50 PM EDT) -- A U.K. judge ruled Friday that the name of Microsoft Corp.'s SkyDrive cloud storage service infringes the Sky trademark held by satellite broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC.

Justice Sarah Asplin of the High Court of Justice ruled that there is "every reason to conclude" that consumers may believe Sky, which operates broadband Internet services in the U.K. in addition to television networks and other services under the Sky name, is the operator of Microsoft's SkyDrive service.
