EU Hits Russia With 1st WTO Case

Law360, New York (July 9, 2013, 3:28 PM EDT) -- The European Union hit Russia with a complaint at the World Trade Organization on Tuesday over fees the country charges on imported cars, the first case brought against Russia since it joined the world body last year.

The fees at issue are imposed on used cars to incentivize the purchase of greener models, but Russia exempts its own automakers and those of certain former Soviet Republics — a provision the EU says makes them discriminatory.
