Prop 8 Supporters Ask Calif. Judge To Halt Gay Marriages

Law360, Los Angeles (July 12, 2013, 5:40 PM EDT) -- Gay marriage opponents asked a California court on Friday to stop public officials from issuing same-sex marriage licenses, saying they don't have the legal authority to do so and that the U.S. Supreme Court's decision against Proposition 8 was based on a technicality.

The petitioners,, said the court should issue an immediate stay or injunction requiring the enforcement of the state's Proposition 8 gay marriage ban, because an appellate court hadn't ruled the measure unconstitutional.
