Water District Strikes $6M Deal With LA Over Creek Access

Law360, New York (July 12, 2013, 8:29 PM EDT) -- The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said it will drop two lawsuits alleging a mountain resort town illegally diverted water from a stream that feeds the Owens River, after securing a $5.8 million settlement unveiled Friday.

Under the deal, the Mammoth Community Water District, which serves the town of Mammoth Lakes in central California, will pay LADWP $3.4 million immediately and another $2.4 million when the deal's initial 50-year term expires.
