Blagojevich Asks 7th Circ. For New Trial

Law360, Chicago (July 16, 2013, 1:55 PM EDT) -- Disgraced former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich lobbied the Seventh Circuit on Monday for a new trial on the corruption charges that landed him a 14-year prison sentence, claiming the government’s evidence was lacking and that the jury was not properly instructed as to the relevant law.

In a brief laying out his appeal to the court, Blagojevich’s attorneys said the primary charge against the politician — that he tried to sell President Obama’s vacant Senate seat — was flat-out false.
