Toyota Unit Says It Bought Fake Parts Racket

Law360, Los Angeles (July 22, 2013, 10:03 PM EDT) -- A supply chain subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp. on Friday accused a supplier it acquired of running an elaborate scheme to sell fake catalytic converters to Toyota and other buyers, according to a complaint filed in California federal court.

Toyota Tsusho America Inc. alleged Friday that when a subsidiary purchased catalytic converter dealer Sino Scrap Inc., also known as Autocats Inc., in 2008, the company had no idea that Autocats was scamming its customers with fake converters.
