App Maker Can't Trim Facebook Unit From User Data Suit

Law360, New York (July 22, 2013, 7:00 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Monday declined to cut Facebook Inc.'s Irish subsidiary from the social networking giant's breach of contract suit alleging app developer Profile Technology Ltd. improperly retained user data, saying the two were contractually bound.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal determined that New Zealand-based Profile Technology entered into a contract with Facebook Ireland Ltd. when it won authorization as a third-party developer of Facebook applications in 2008 to retrieve publicly available user profile data, and denied its attempts to slim down the...
