Wendy's To Shed 425 Stores To Franchisers By Mid-2014

Law360, New York (July 23, 2013, 1:37 PM EDT) -- On the heels of a strong second quarter, quick-service restaurant chain Wendy’s Co. is planning to shed 425 of its less profitable bases to franchisers through a mix of property sales and lease deals, company leaders announced Tuesday.

The portfolio reshuffling will shave down the chunk of company-owned restaurants from 22 percent to 15 percent, and executives expect that rental and royalty fees from the deals will help the company make up for any lost sales. The targeted properties, which have some of the lowest profit...
