Sprint Case May Lead To More Tax FCAs: Whistleblower Rep

Law360, New York (July 24, 2013, 2:23 PM EDT) -- Trial lawyers are closely watching New York's $300 million tax-related false claims case against Sprint Nextel Corp., a noted whistleblower advocate and former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission assistant director said Wednesday, adding the unique statute could soon be replicated elsewhere.

Many law firms are teeing up possible cases tailored to the New York False Claims Act — amended in 2010 to include claims sounding in tax fraud — according to Jordan A. Thomas, now chairman of Labaton Sucharow LLP's whistleblower representation practice.
