Jordan Asks High Court To Nix Sanctions In Terror Aid Case

Law360, New York (July 26, 2013, 3:35 PM EDT) -- The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Wednesday urged the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn discovery sanctions awarded against Arab Bank PLC in litigation claiming the bank aided known terrorists, saying the ruling was unfair and risked harming the U.S.' diplomatic relationships.

In an amicus brief filed with the high court, Jordan argued that the sanctions order had effectively punished Arab Bank for refusing to violate Jordan’s bank secrecy laws, with disclosure of customer details without consent a criminal offense in the kingdom.
