HMA, Tenet Face Whistleblower Suit Over Alleged Kickbacks

Law360, New York (August 1, 2013, 9:16 PM EDT) -- Health Management Associates, Tenet Healthcare Corp. and their affiliates allegedly paid kickbacks to clinics that referred undocumented pregnant women to their hospitals and submitted false claims to Medicaid for reimbursement, according to a federal whistleblower lawsuit unsealed in Georgia federal court on Wednesday.

The suit says that HMA, Tenet and their affiliates paid prenatal clinics operated by Hispanic Medical Management and Clinica de la Mama to refer undocumented pregnant patients to their hospitals under the guise of Spanish interpreter contracts. The medical centers then submitted false...
