Steelmaker's $3.5M Wage Settlement Gets Thumbs-Down

Law360, New York (August 1, 2013, 5:03 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Thursday swatted away a proposed $3.5 million agreement to settle a wage-and-hour class action against steel product manufacturer USS-Posco Industries, finding the settlement may contain “obvious deficiencies” and could disadvantage certain class members.

U.S. District Judge Jon S. Tigar declined to give his preliminary approval to the settlement, which was proposed by former UPI worker Carl Cordy. The judge said Cordy's attorneys had failed to prove that the $3.5 million settlement total was in line with what the plaintiffs might have...
