Motorola Cable Boxes Infringe Video Patents, Suit Says

Law360, New York (August 2, 2013, 8:34 PM EDT) -- Koninklijke Philips N.V. and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. have accused Motorola Mobility LLC’s set-top cable boxes of infringing seven patents covering video-compression technology, according to a suit filed in Florida federal court Wednesday.

Philips, Mitsubishi and the French corporation Thomson Licensing said Motorola had licensed their intellectual property until 2010, when the company decided against renewing its license to a portfolio of patents for technology enabling the efficient storage and transmission of digital video.
