Senators Blast DOD's Russian Helicopter Dealings

Law360, New York (August 5, 2013, 7:36 PM EDT) -- A bipartisan group of 12 senators on Monday called on the Pentagon to cancel all contracts to purchase Mi-17 helicopters from the same Russian state-backed firm that supplies arms to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, saying America’s relationship with the company was “troubling on many levels.”

The lawmakers, led by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, urged Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to void all current contracts with Rosoboronexport, Russia’s state-run arms exporter, claiming the company continues to enable atrocities...
