Nordstrom Sales Workers Win OK For Calif. Wage Class

Law360, New York (August 13, 2013, 5:15 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Monday certified a statewide class in two wage-and-hour suits against Nordstrom Inc., but denied a bid to establish a nationwide class of salespeople, saying the relevant complaint failed to show the retailer had maintained its allegedly illegal wage policy in all locations.

Although U.S. District Judge Jeffrey T. Miller approved California-wide classes at the behest of the named plaintiffs in the two suits, former Nordstrom salespeople Gina Balasanyan and Gino Maraventano, he rejected the nationwide class sought by Balasanyan.
