DOD Plans $885M Howitzer Sale to India

Law360, New York (August 13, 2013, 3:02 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense on Wednesday will ask Congress for approval to sell 145 howitzers to the nation of India, netting $885 million for the United States while strengthening the ally’s military capabilities, the department said.

In an unclassified letter dated August 2, Vice Admiral William Landlay tells Speaker of the House John Boehner that India will use the howitzers to modernize its armed forces and enhance its ability to operate in hazardous conditions.
