DOD Closes Open-Air Burn Pits At Key Afghanistan Base

Law360, New York (August 15, 2013, 12:17 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense has ceased its controversial burn pit operations at one of two campsites supporting coalition forces in Afghanistan, lawmakers said Wednesday, following a special investigator’s warning that the toxic open-air burning of garbage endangers the health of 13,500 military and civilian personnel.
