NY AG Settles With Home Improvers Over Contract Violations

Law360, New York (August 15, 2013, 4:57 PM EDT) -- New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has reached a settlement with 211 home improvement contractors who violated the state law by failing to honor work agreements, among other problems, his office announced Thursday.

State law requires contractors to give customers a written contract that is signed by both parties and share certain information and disclosures before work can even begin. But Schneiderman's investigation revealed that the companies failed to provide written contracts to customers and honor what he called the “most basic” work agreements....
