Fla. DOT Breached Hiring Deal For Rail Line, Union Says

Law360, Miami (August 16, 2013, 3:20 PM EDT) -- A labor union filed suit against the Florida Department of Transportation on Thursday, claiming the agency failed to adhere to an agreement to hire federally certified signalmen for work on the new Orlando-area SunRail commuter line set to begin service next spring.

The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and the affiliated Florida AFL-CIO want the FDOT to hire United Signal, which they say is the only contractor covered by both the federal Railway Labor Act and federal Railroad Retirement Act.
