BHP Could Face US Enforcement Action In Corruption Probe

Law360, New York (August 16, 2013, 12:53 PM EDT) -- U.S. authorities have ramped up a probe of BHP Billiton Ltd., informing the Australian mining giant that they've identified issues relating to terminated projects and the company's sponsorship of the 2008 Beijing Olympics that could lead to enforcement actions over possible violations of anti-corruption laws, BHP said Friday.

BHP had previously disclosed to the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and other authorities evidence that it uncovered regarding possible violations of applicable anti-corruption laws involving interactions with foreign government officials.
