DOJ Asks Fed. Circ. To Relieve Bernanke From AIG Testimony

Law360, New York (August 16, 2013, 7:32 PM EDT) -- The Justice Department on Friday challenged an order for Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to testify in Starr International Co. Inc.’s $55.5 billion suit over the American International Group Inc. bailout, arguing he can’t provide any relevant information that the DOJ hasn’t already offered.

High-level federal officials such as Bernanke should not be forced to testify unless there are “extraordinary” reasons they would have to do so, which do not exist in this case, the U.S. Department of Justice told the Federal Circuit in a petition...
