Pa. AG Takes Up Harrisburg Incinerator Investigation

Law360, Philadelphia (August 19, 2013, 1:24 PM EDT) -- Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane is currently looking into reports of criminal activity connected to a bungled waste-to-energy incinerator project that saddled Harrisburg with more than $300 million in debt, a spokesman in her office confirmed on Monday.

Spokesman Joe Peters said in a statement that the Dauphin County district attorney had referred the matter to the attorney general's office. The project to upgrade the incinerator, which began with a bond sale in 2003, ultimately served to push the state capital into state receivership.
