FTC Commish Is Wrong About Data Brokers, Ad Group Says

Law360, New York (August 21, 2013, 5:36 PM EDT) -- A mass-marketing industry group on Monday urged Federal Trade Commissioner Julie Brill to walk back proposals to restrict data mining, accusing Brill of poisoning the debate over online privacy and maligning practices that benefit consumers.

In a letter to the commissioner, Direct Marketing Association President and CEO Linda A. Wooley slammed Brill’s Friday column in the Washington Post calling for comprehensive reform of the data brokerage industry that would give consumers new tools to reassert control over how their personal information is gathered and shared....
