Pa. Bill Aims To Raise $1B For Roads By Leasing To Drillers

Law360, Philadelphia (August 26, 2013, 5:27 PM EDT) -- A Republican lawmaker in the Pennsylvania General Assembly unveiled a proposal Friday that would raise more than $1 billion to fund transportation and infrastructure projects by leasing state lands for drilling by natural gas companies.

Rep. Rick Saccone, R-Allegheny, said that taking bids from drillers for gas exploration on public land would allow the state to raise desperately needed funding to repair structurally deficient roads and bridges without placing additional burdens on Pennsylvania taxpayers.
