DOL Ramps Up Affirmative Action Rules For Contractors

Law360, New York (August 27, 2013, 6:55 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Labor unveiled two long-awaited affirmative action regulations Tuesday, seeking to increase federal contractors' responsibilities to hire veterans and disabled workers.

The two rules are part of the DOL Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs' ambitious regulatory agenda under President Barack Obama, which has encountered some delays and at times frayed the nerves of contractors. The affirmative action rule for veterans was proposed in April 2011, and the disability rule eight months later, but both stalled on their way to finalization.
