MPAA Claims Victory In Hotfile Copyright Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (August 28, 2013, 10:29 PM EDT) -- Online movie and TV streaming site runner Hotfile Corp. on Wednesday lost a copyright infringement suit when a Florida federal judge found the site wasn’t protected by a safe harbor rule in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Motion Picture Association of America said.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams found the site, which claimed to be only a host for people to store their files, was liable for infringement of the studios’ work, but also, that it wasn’t protected by the same safe harbor provision...
