Jury Orders Motorola To Pay Microsoft $14.5M In FRAND Row

Law360, New York (September 5, 2013, 11:38 AM EDT) -- A federal jury in Seattle ruled Wednesday that Motorola Mobility LLC breached its obligation to license its standard-essential patents to Microsoft Corp. on fair terms and ordered Motorola to pay $14.5 million in damages.

The judge in the case earlier this year set what he said would be a fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory, or FRAND, royalty rate for Motorola's patents, which was billions of dollars less than the Google Inc. unit had demanded from Microsoft.
