Despite Wider Trade Gap, Commerce Head Says Exports Rising

Law360, New York (September 5, 2013, 3:13 PM EDT) -- Though the U.S. trade deficit widened in July as imports outpaced exports, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker said Wednesday that the U.S. is still on track to export a record amount of goods and services in 2013.

A monthly report issued Wednesday by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis showed that the U.S. trade deficit grew to $39.1 billion in July, an increase of 13.3 percent from June's deficit, which had been the lowest since late 2009. The wider gap...
