HHS, Other Agencies Wasted $321M On Duplicative IT: GAO

Law360, New York (September 13, 2013, 6:47 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services, Defense and Homeland Security may have wasted $321 million on information technology investments that were already in place in their respective agencies, according to a U.S. Government Accountability Office report released Thursday.

The GAO's report identified 12 investments out of the 590 they reviewed for the report that they said were “potentially duplicative” — the majority of which came from HHS. The report said HHS made six potentially duplicative investments worth $261 million, which include four investments totaling...
