State, Federal Regulators To Discuss Smart Grid

Law360, New York (February 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- State and federal regulators say they will assemble a collaborative dialogue about the transition to a smart electric grid, FERC announced Thursday.

The Smart Grid encompasses advanced technological applications on the transmission and distribution grids, and involves automating the electric grid. These computer-driven technologies are already being deployed in some parts of the U.S.

Commissioner Suedeen Kelly of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Commissioner Frederick Butler of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities will chair the collaborative project. The Smart Grid initiative also represents...
