11th Circ. Chucks Panama Contract Dispute

Law360, New York (September 17, 2013, 5:23 PM EDT) -- The Eleventh Circuit on Tuesday affirmed the dismissal of a Florida engineer's contract suit against a Panama company over alleged unpaid work on a government-sponsored tollway project in Panama City, ruling the suit lacked personal jurisdiction.

The appeals court ruled that Juan Melgarejo is barred from bringing a suit against Pycsa Panama SA in U.S. federal court under Florida's so-called Long Arm Statute because both the defendant and the work at issue are entirely Panama-based.
