Enviros Win Battle To Protect Whales From Navy Sonar

Law360, Los Angeles (September 26, 2013, 9:51 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge Wednesday ordered the National Marine Fisheries Service to reevaluate permits allowing the U.S. Navy to conduct training exercises involving sonar off the West Coast, finding the agency didn't use the best available science on potential harm to marine mammals.

Siding with environmental groups, U.S. Magistrate Judge Nandor J. Vadas ordered the National Marine Fisheries Service to ensure the Northwest Training Range Complex training exercises, originally approved in November 2010, comply with protective measures in the Endangered Species Act.
