Watchdog Slams Poor Oversight Of Afghan Fuel Purchases

Law360, New York (October 2, 2013, 8:52 PM EDT) -- The U.S. and its allies plan to give $1.4 billion to the Afghan government to purchase fuel for the Afghan National Police through 2018, but limited oversight and poor records create a high risk of loss, theft, or misuse of U.S. funds, according to a Wednesday audit report.

The report, by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, found that the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, or CSTC-A, could not provide documents to support the $134.6 million it requested for Afghan National Police fuel in 2013, and...
