SF Flexible Workplace Measure Puts Burdens On Employers

Law360, San Diego (October 3, 2013, 5:04 PM EDT) -- The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved an ordinance that would require employers to consider requests for flexible work arrangements by employees who provide care for children, spouses or elderly parents, but lawyers say it will subject employers to more administrative obligations and greater scrutiny by city enforcement officials.

The ordinance seeks to bar discrimination against workers on the basis of their caregiver status and prohibit employers from retaliating against workers who ask for a flexible work arrangement — provisions that could expand protections...
