Downtown Miami Landowner Says New Tax Is Unconstitutional

Law360, Miami (October 2, 2013, 5:20 PM EDT) -- A downtown Miami property owner on Tuesday filed a putative class action against the city, alleging that a recently implemented real estate tax applicable only to downtown properties violates the Florida constitution.

Milan Investment Group Inc. sued the city of Miami, the Miami Downtown Development Authority, Miami-Dade County's property appraiser and tax collector, and the Florida Department of Revenue to challenge an additional .478 ad valorem tax millage rate that will be applied to downtown properties on top of citywide property taxes.
