US Says BP Analysis Supports High Deepwater Spill Estimate

Law360, New Orleans (October 9, 2013, 6:22 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government on Wednesday wrapped up its case against BP PLC in the quantification portion of the Deepwater Horizon trial, highlighting its reliance on BP’s own information and recommendations to support its estimate that 4.2 million barrels of oil were released into the Gulf Of Mexico.

A pair of petroleum engineering experts testified that their calculations supporting the government’s figure used inputs gleaned from BP documents in addition to data from the Macondo well, which leaked for nearly three months following an April 2010 explosion....
