DOJ Urged To Block $260M Cumulus-Dial Merger

Law360, New York (October 9, 2013, 8:31 PM EDT) -- Consumer Watchdog on Wednesday asked the U.S. Department of Justice to block the proposed $260 million merger between Cumulus Media Inc. and radio broadcaster Dial Global Inc., saying the deal would create a clear duopoly, along with Clear Channel Communications Inc., in the nation’s largest radio markets.

The nonprofit consumer advocacy organization argues in a letter to the DOJ that the two vertically integrated companies would control outright between 1,000 and 1,300 radio stations and indirectly control content for others, mainly in the top 100 markets....
