Health Industry In Limbo As Shutdown Halts Rulemaking

Law360, New York (October 10, 2013, 6:40 PM EDT) -- The government shutdown has effectively halted the federal rulemaking process, and every passing day threatens to disrupt how health care providers are paid and further delay guidance eagerly anticipated by drugmakers, experts say.

Although signs emerged Thursday that Congress and the White House were inching toward a deal, an immediate end appeared unlikely for furloughs that have lasted almost two full work weeks at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, affecting more than 10,000 staffers.
