Deputy Defense Secretary Carter To Resign

Law360, New York (October 10, 2013, 4:46 PM EDT) -- Deputy Defense Secretary Ash Carter will be stepping down in December, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Thursday.

Carter had provided some stability at the Pentagon's top ranks during Barack Obama's presidency, serving as the second-in-command for Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and his predecessor, Leon Panetta, and serving as the chief weapons buyer for the department under Robert Gates. Hagel said he "reluctantly accepted” Carter's resignation, and praised Carter for his efforts to reform DOD acquisitions and for his loyalty to the troops.
