9th Circ. Nixes Appeal Over 'Conan The Barbarian' Rights

Law360, Los Angeles (October 22, 2013, 9:04 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit on Monday tossed Stan Lee Media Inc.'s challenge to Paradox Entertainment Inc.'s acquisition of the intellectual property rights to the "Conan the Barbarian" character, saying the order that transferred the rights was valid. 

In a unanimous ruling, a three-judge panel affirmed a California federal judge's refusal to vacate a 2002 bankruptcy court order approving a settlement that transferred the rights for the Conan character from SLMI to Conan Sales Co. for a payment of $275,000. Conan Sales, which was a secured creditor of SLMI in the bankruptcy proceeding, then sold the property to Paradox for $4 million....
