EU Parliament Votes To Block US Bank-Data Sharing Program

Law360, New York (October 23, 2013, 1:25 PM EDT) -- European lawmakers on Wednesday called on the European Union to halt cooperation with the United States in a program aimed at disrupting terrorist financing over revelations that U.S. security agencies were collecting European citizens’ bank account information.

The European Parliament narrowly adopted a nonbinding resolution urging the EU to suspend the Terrorist Finance Tracking Program in response to allegations that the U.S. National Security Agency had unlawfully tapped EU citizens’ financial data held by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications network.
