States Urge High Court To Weigh ACA Contraception Mandate

Law360, New York (October 23, 2013, 4:44 PM EDT) -- California and 10 other states on Monday threw their weight behind the federal government’s request that the U.S. Supreme Court overturn a Tenth Circuit decision allowing for-profit companies to claim exemption from the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate because of their owners' religious views.

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a petition for certiorari in September, asking the high court to review a Tenth Circuit ruling that Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. and sister company Mardel Inc. don't have to enforce the contraception mandate under the Religious Freedom...
