Merkel Demands To Know Whether US Tapped Her Phone

Law360, New York (October 23, 2013, 5:26 PM EDT) -- Germany said Wednesday it has received information that Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cell phone may have been monitored by U.S. intelligence services.

In a statement on its website, the German federal government said it immediately questioned the U.S. about the matter and asked for comprehensive information. The statement said Merkel made it clear that if the report should be true, she would “unequivocally” disapprove of it and would deem it “completely unacceptable.”
