AMC Puts Up $1B For Liberty Global Overseas Content Unit

Law360, New York (October 28, 2013, 6:58 PM EDT) -- AMC Networks Inc. said Monday it would buy up Chellomedia, the international content unit of telecommunications giant Liberty Global PLC, for $1.04 billion, adding dozens of cable networks that are distributed to more than 390 million households.

AMC Networks said the acquisition — expected to close in the first quarter of next year — would allow it to distribute its popular original content like "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" to viewers in 138 countries on its own network of company-owned channels.
