Alaskan Town Sues ExxonMobil, Others Over GHGs

Law360, New York (February 27, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A tiny Alaskan village has filed suit against Exxon Mobil Corp. and 23 other oil and energy companies, claiming that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the defendants have left the town uninhabitable.

The Native Village of Kivalina and the city of Kivalina filed the suit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California seeking monetary damages that would allow villagers to move forward with what they say is a long-needed project to relocate the village.
