Panel Refuses Chevron's Bid To Toss $2M Award

Law360 (February 27, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- An appeals court has shot down Chevron USA Inc.'s appeal of a $2.6 million award in a wrongful death suit filed by the mother of a woman who was set on fire at one of the company's gas stations.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit said that under Georgia law, the district court did not err in submitting the case to a jury and denying Chevron's motion for judgment as a matter of law or for a new trial....
