9th Circ. Partly Blocks Chevron Email Info Bid In $19B Suit

By Gavin Broady (October 28, 2013, 6:31 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit on Friday partially granted an emergency stay aiming to prevent Chevron Corp. from accessing the Google and Yahoo email account data of several nonparties to the oil giant's New York racketeering suit over a $19 billion pollution judgment.

A unanimous appeals panel halted the effect of a California federal judge's August order with respect to six of the more than 40 email addresses for which Chevron sought account and usage information in connection with its crusade to have the disputed award declared invalid and unenforceable around the globe.
