Clearwater, Fla., Voters Advance $160M Downtown Aquarium

Law360, Miami (November 5, 2013, 8:08 PM EST) -- Residents of Clearwater, Fla., voted Tuesday to approve an amendment to the city charter that will allow the city to negotiate a lease of downtown property for a $160 million aquarium facility that it hopes will draw visitors to its urban core.

Just over half of Clearwater voters approved the amendment, which will allow the city to enter into a proposed 60-year lease with Clearwater Marine Aquarium for the waterfront property on which city hall currently sits.
