Alstom Forces Insurer To NY Arbitration In $33M Building Row

Law360, New York (October 31, 2013, 6:11 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge on Thursday ordered an insurer to drop a $33 million lawsuit in Chile against Alstom Chile SA and to arbitrate in New York a dispute over whether the energy contractor provided defective engineering and construction services that damaged a 370-megawatt power plant in Chile.

Granting Alstom's petition, U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain blocked Mapfre Compania De Seguros Generales Chile SA from pursuing a lawsuit in Chile over costly damage to a steam turbine generator at the plant. Mapfre argues that...
